Event Description

Learn How 3D Printing Can Be Used Effectively in The Classroom To Enhance Learning in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The 3D printer is poised to transform the world of three-dimensional objects, just as the laser printer transformed the creation of printed documents. Industrial strength 3D printers have been available for a long time, however, inexpensive printers suitable for school use are on the market now. Like laser printers, which needed powerful word processors for document creation, 3D printers need 3D design software to create the artwork.

Many powerful programs are available free and the resulting designs and applications cut across the curriculum, supporting learning in most subjects. Engineering is now part of the K-12 curriculum in many states. 3D printers can help teachers bring this topic to students in an effective way.

This session, with expert speaker David Thornburg, will explore the brief history of the rapidly emerging revolution in 3D printing in the classroom. David will discuss the ways in which 3D printers are being used in educational settings and will demonstrate some free software tools that students can use to design their own artifacts. You will understand the direct connection of 3D printing to the new national standards in science and mathematics.

You will understand the specific connections to Common Core mathematics and Next Generation Science Standards. You will get powerful free design software packages which can be used by students to create their own designs. This informative webinar will help teachers and educators set the stage for a powerful transformation in education. It will help you incorporate 3D printers in the classroom in ways that engage students in curricular areas. The session will also refer to specific resources and you will learn how to select the right printers for classroom use.
