Strategies to Increase the Outreach of Your Academic Advising & Career Services

Students begin their college education with the hope of attaining a better career after graduation, but many of them are unsure about their professional goals and the academic choices they need to make to get there. And the wealth of information and resources available on academic and career choices can appear intimidating to most students. So what do you do to address the needs of such students – and help them succeed?

Academic advising plays a crucial role – both in a student’s college education and career. But the problem is that very few first and second year students engage with career services – or explore the major options – before they come into academic advising.

Join this webinar, where Joseph Murray and Brian Montalvo – both experts in appreciative advising – will show you how to get more students to use career services in their first and second years of school – and provide more academic advising support to undeclared and unsure students.

Using visuals and handouts, Murray and Montalvo will demonstrate the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) partnership model so that you can clearly understand it. They will discuss the ways in which you can link advising and career services to increase support and outcomes for each office. You will know the advantages of building a strong partnership between academic advising (Academic Affairs) and Career Services (Student Affairs & Enrollment Management). With the help of ideas, suggestions and examples, they will show you what the partnership could look like, and how to begin meaningful conversations during all phases – backed with hard data to support the value of the partnership.

You will also learn how to positively collaborate, understand its impact on student success and customer service, and know what to avoid for the partnership to be successful.

After attending the webinar, you will be able to develop a robust framework for success. You will understand the best way to approach the partnership, maximize results, and confidently use the tools to bring the FAU partnership model to your institution.
